The Students

These three students share their views on bisexuality and provide a good insight into their understanding of bi erasure and bisexual representation in general. As these students do not identify as bisexual it has allowed us to get them thinking about how they can make a difference as a student.

"My name is Jimi Taylor, my pronouns are he/him and I am a queer student at Bournemouth University. Currently, I am writing a dissertation about Bisexual romances in Teen Dramas and think there should be more research done into the nature of bisexuality." - Jimi Taylor

"Hi, My name is Will (He/Him), I am a second year Media Production student at Bournemouth University. Personally, I sexually identify as gay and while I was working out my sexuality I identified as bi to feel like I belonged somewhere. Bi erasure and biphobia are things that I had found out about fairly quickly; when I first started telling people about my sexuality. I was often told ‘make a choice’ or ‘so if you date a guy you’re gay and if you date a girl you’re straight’. And that made me realise. People don’t see LGBT as LGBT, they see it as LGT. Bisexuality needs recognition. It is just as valid as every other sexuality!" - Will Rodwell

"My name is Q (she/her) and I am a Bournemouth Media Production student from London.
I myself don’t currently identify myself as anything, so wasn’t sure of the terms bierasure or biphobia, after thinking about what it might mean, it has helped me to identify areas in film and television where some general opinions have been applied." - Q Amo

"Hello! I am a 21 year male from the new forest. My pronouns are He/Him and I study Media Production at Bournemouth university and I am currently on my placement year doing marketing for a caring agency called Good Oaks Healthcare. As a straight male, I have never heard of Bi Erasure. But now that I have learnt this term, it is very interesting and is an eye opener as it delves into the mind of someone who is repressing their sexuality and identity. I think Bi Erasure is a real thing and I hope that this project raises awareness to the mass public." - Gabe Calderon
